This is my first rice cooker, and I'm delighted. The first time I used the cooker I brought the rice to a picnic lunch to share with a friend. It was simple brown rice mixed with a little black rice. My friend exclaimed that it was the best tasting brown rice she'd ever eaten. And I had not mentioned that I'd purchased the rice cooker, so it was a totally unprovoked comment. I get home late from work and have always been too lazy/hurried to prepare brown rice for my dinner, but now it's ready when I

I've owned this rice cooker for four months now. I use it about 3 to 4 times a week with stellar results each and every time. I've made rice, short grain rice (to make sushi with), brown basmati rice, short grain brown rice, mahogony and wild rice mixed together, and even quinoa with it. They have all come out perfect with it. A lot of times, I'll throw in the rice in the morning and don't even think about it until dinner comes around, at which point I have perfect rice waiting for me.

I was used to my college rice cooker for the last decade. That gave out and did some research and got the Zojirushi. At my local Japanese mega store that is pretty much all they carry.
Takes a bit more time to cook. I'd say add about 15-20 min to cooking time. But the rice is just PERFECT. Never in my life have I had brown rice actually taste good! If you make rice in the old machine and eat it an hour after its done, it tastes old and not quite warm and too dry. This 'keep warm' actually does what you ask. It's as if you actually just made the batch of rice, even thought the rice is 4-5 hours old.
The size is perfect for my wife and I to cook small batches (2c) or 5 c when we have people over.
Made regular short grain, sweet, and brown rice. All great.

Absolutely superb machine. I can not recommend it highly enough.
More than rice, it handles grains beautifully. Steel cut oats, cooked perfectly, and ready whenever you wake up! Pearled barley or rye for a salad. Everything I've thrown at it so far comes out great. (just don't forget to set it for porridge when you cook the oats, or you'll have a mess to deal with)
If you're on the edge, buy it. You won't be disappointed. This one won't end up in the back of the cabinet with the juicer, the magic bullet, and the Ronco whatjamajigit.
